Privacy Policy

How Lich Software handles your data across this website and the Cadence app.

Last updated 7 July 2026

This policy explains what personal data Lich Software ("we", "us", "our") collects, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers this website (lich.software) and our mobile app Cadence. We are a small independent studio and we keep data collection to the minimum needed to run our site, our games, and our business.

For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, the quickest way to reach us is through our contact form.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Lich Software is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us about privacy matters through the contact page.

2. Data we collect on this website

  • Contact form. When you message us we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message, so we can read and reply.
  • Technical logs. Like most websites, our server records standard technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you request. We use this for security, diagnostics, and keeping the site running.
  • Advertising. We display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads. See how Google uses advertising data.
  • Web fonts. Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is shared with Google to deliver the font files.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use the website contact details for marketing.

3. Data the Cadence app collects

Cadence is a chord-training app. Most of what it stores lives on your device, not on our servers.

  • On-device data. Your chosen name, instrument, practice settings, streak, XP, theme, and daily practice count are stored locally on your device (the free-round counter is kept in the device keystore so it survives a reinstall). This data is not sent to us.
  • Microphone. In the "play it back" practice mode the app listens through your microphone to detect the notes you play. Audio is analysed in real time on your device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. You can also tap the on-screen instrument instead.
  • Analytics & crash reports. We use Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. This may include app events, an app-instance identifier, and device/OS information.
  • Advertising. Free users see ads via Google AdMob, which may use advertising identifiers. We ask for ad consent through Google's consent flow (UMP) and, on iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Premium removes all ads.
  • Free-limit safeguard (Android). To enforce the free daily limit across reinstalls on Android, we store a counter against an anonymised device identifier in Firebase, tied to anonymous authentication. It is not linked to your identity.
  • Purchases. Premium subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple or Google through their in-app purchase systems. We never receive or store your payment details.
  • Notifications. If you enable practice reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies: functional ones that remember your consent choice, and advertising ones set by Google AdSense. When required, we ask for your consent before non-essential trackers load, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the consent control on the site.

5. Why we're allowed to use your data (legal bases)

  • Consent — for advertising and non-essential cookies/identifiers, and analytics where consent is required.
  • Legitimate interests — for keeping our site and app secure, preventing abuse, and enforcing usage limits.
  • Performance of a service — to provide the app features you use and to answer your messages.
  • Legal obligations — where the law requires us to retain or disclose data.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers that help us operate, and only as needed:

  • Google — AdSense, AdMob, Firebase (Analytics/Crashlytics) and Google Fonts. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Apple & Google — for app distribution and in-app purchases.
  • Postmark — to deliver transactional email such as contact-form replies.
  • Our hosting provider — which stores the website and its logs on our behalf.

7. International transfers

Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. How long we keep data

We keep contact-form messages for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and a reasonable period afterwards. Technical logs are kept for a limited time for security and diagnostics. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the providers' own retention settings. On-device app data stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, request portability, and withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, contact us through the contact page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

10. Children

Our website and app are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep the amount of data we hold small and well protected.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted where appropriate.
